THC vs. CBD

September 6, 2017

THC vs. CBD
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are two cannabinoids that you should know about. It’s important to understand the differences between these two cannabinoids so you know what to look for buying products.

An Introduction to THC

THC is known as the psychoactive cannabinoid, which basically means that it is the chemical responsible for creating the high that is associated with marijuana. It is the most common cannabinoid found in marijuana, and produces a wide range of effects, including relaxation, hunger, fatigue, altered sense, and a sense of calm. THC works by imitating the actions of anandamide, which is a neurotransmitter produced in your body. This means THC binds to cannabinoid receptors in your brain and activates neurons to produce the different effects associated with a marijuana high. For example, THC can impact your coordination by binding to the cannabinoid receptors in your cerebellum.

An Introduction to CBD

CBD may be a cannabinoid, but it does not produce a high in the same way that THC does. Instead, CBD will relieve anxiety, reduce inflammation, and treat nausea. Because CBD offers these health benefits without producing a high, it is often found in high quantities in medicinal marijuana. In fact, many medicinal marijuana users look for high-CBD strains of marijuana to treat their depression, anxiety, and general pain. Many people who are experiencing discomfort due to cancer treatment also turn to high-CBD strains for relief from these unpleasant side effects. Read CBD vs. THC: why is CBD not psychoactive?

But, you don’t have to have a serious health condition in order to enjoy strains that are high in CBD. Some recreational users prefer high-CBD strains because they can make you feel more relaxed without making you high. This makes it easier to get things done without worrying about looking or acting high.

Purchasing Marijuana

Before buying marijuana from weed shops in Denver, look at its THC and CBD content so you know what to expect. A strain that is high in THC will typically produce an intense high, which may or may not be what you’re looking for. A strain that is high in CBD but low in THC can be used to relax and relieve general anxiety. It’s important to note that CBD can actually counteract the effects of THC. This means if a strain is high in both THC and CBD, it won’t produce as intense of a high as a strain that is high in THC and low in CBD.

If you are interested in CBD or THC products, but don’t want to smoke marijuana, visit a dispensary and ask the budtender to see other options. There are ways to enjoy the effects of these cannabinoids without having to smoke. For example, you can get the same THC-induced high by eating edibles.

Does THC Really Impact Memory?

August 23, 2017

Does THC Really Impact Memory?
Smoking is often associated with fogginess and memory loss, but are the two really linked? A new study used mice to examine the effects of THC on memory, and the results were quite surprising. Here’s what you need to know about this research:

The Study

Researchers began the study by separating the mice by their ages, so there was one group of young mice and one group of old mice. Then, the researchers further divided the groups so some mice in each group received a daily dose of THC for 28 days, while the others did not receive any THC at all. THC is a cannabinoid found in cannabis products sold in dispensaries in Denver. This is the chemical that is responsible for producing the high effect that marijuana users experience, and many people believe it can also negatively affect users’ memory. Learn about the cannabis study: how THC affects learning and memory at different ages.

After the 28 days was over, the researchers performed a series of tests to determine if the mice’s ability to learn or remember things was affected by THC consumption. It’s important to note that none of the mice had any THC in their systems at the time of this test. This is because the purpose of the study was not to determine whether THC affects memory while it’s still in someone’s system, but rather if repeated use of THC has a permanent effect on memory.

The Results

Surprisingly, the old mice that had received daily doses of THC performed extremely well on the learning and memory tests. In fact, researchers found that the group of old mice that had consumed THC performed at the same level as the group of young mice that had not consumed any THC.

To confirm this finding, researchers studied the brain activity of the mice. They found that older mice that had been given THC had more neuron activity in the hippocampus than older mice that had not been given THC.

What do these findings mean? It could mean that the effects of THC will vary depending on the user’s age. Of course, this only one study, so more research is needed to determine if these results can be replicated. Additionally, this study was performed on mice, so there’s no way of knowing whether older adults will experience the same benefits from cannabis as the older mice in this study did.

Even though it’s too early to generalize these results, it’s still interesting to hear that THC may not affect memory in the way that we have always assumed that it does. Hopefully, other scientists will take interest in this subject and provide more research that marijuana consumers can use to better their lives.

Tips For Using Topical Products

August 16, 2017

Tips For Using Topical Products
Topicals are incredibly useful products that are designed to provide instant pain relief, alleviate itching, and improve elasticity. Even if you don’t enjoy smoking or consuming edibles, you may get a lot of use out of topical products. Before you purchase a topical product, make sure you understand exactly how to use it. Here are some tips to help you get started:

Choose the Right Product

Walk into any Denver dispensary and you will quickly realize that there are many different types of topical products. Some will fight the signs of aging, while others will treat fungal infections or provide localized pain relief. It’s important that you read the label carefully to determine if you are choosing a product that will provide you with the benefits you need. If you are having trouble finding the right topical, don’t hesitate to ask a dispensary employee for assistance. Learn how topical cannabis can help you.

Prep the Area

Before applying topicals from a dispensary, it’s best to thoroughly clean the area to remove oil, dirt, and bacteria from your skin. Make sure that the area is completely dry after you have washed it.

Be Firm

You don’t have to be gentle when spreading the topical cream across your skin—apply a moderate amount of pressure as you massage it into your skin. Firmly massaging the product into your skin will help the chemicals penetrate through the top layers of your skin so they can begin to relieve pain as soon as possible. This should not be painful, so if the area is so tender that applying pressure will cause pain, skip over this step.

Clean Up

After you’re done applying a topical product to your skin, be sure to wash your hands before making contact with any other part of your body. Many topical products contain ingredients that may sting or burn when they come into contact with your eyes, nose, or any other mucous membranes on your body. Prevent this problem by washing the product off of your hands as soon as possible.

Explore Other Options

If you don’t get the desired results with the first topical product that you try, don’t be afraid to explore other options. Some topical products only have CBD, while others have a combination of CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids. Check the label to see what cannabinoids are in the product that you’ve already tried, and then look for another topical product that has a different combination of cannabinoids. Feel free to ask your friends for recommendations, but remember, what works on one person’s body won’t always produce the same results on your body. Be patient until you find the right product for your needs.
