How to Become a Medical Cannabis Patient in Colorado
If you are a patient and you have a valid registry card to legally purchase cannabis, you can do so only for medicinal purposes. A physician may legally aid you in doing so. If you are a patient and you have been charged with illegally possessing more of the medicinal cannabis than you are allowed by law, it is important to show that you needed the additional medicine for your condition, but a physician, in this case, would also have to confirm your legal defense.

The Rules
By Colorado law, you and your caregiver can possess six cannabis plants between each other. Three of these plants can bear usable cannabis, and in addition, you can possess two ounces of cannabis that you can use. Anyone that is in violation of these limits will be kept out of the registry for twelve months. Don’t use your medical cannabis if you plan to drive, neither should you smoke in a public place nor show your stash to anyone. Violation of these rules will only revoke your registry card for one year.

Medical Conditions
To become a medical cannabis patient in the state of Colorado, you have to suffer from specific medical conditions, which include:
  • Cancer
  • AIDS
  • HIV
  • Glaucoma
You would also be eligible, if you show symptoms of a debilitating or chronic disease such as:
  • Severe weight loss
  • Chronic pain
  • Severe nausea
  • Constant muscle spasms
  • Seizures
More importantly, your physician must also believe that the cannabis will provide adequate relief of these symptoms. Colorado law allows you to purchase medical cannabis from the various dispensaries in the local area. However, you will need your registry card to make the purchase.

Primary Caregiver
In the state of Colorado, a primary caregiver is considered someone who is 18 years or older. This person must be responsible enough to be able to manage the well-being of the medical cannabis patient. The caregiver can also be the distributor of the cannabis. In this case, it would be the local dispensary. The law allows the caregiver to also grow the cannabis. The law does not restrict how many patients the primary caregiver can serve. The name and address of your caregiver will appear on the registry card.

The Minor
A minor with parental consent may be allowed to become a medical marijuana patient. However, the minor also has to show the symptoms and condition that are allowed by law.

The Application Process
How do you apply for a registry ID card? You have to apply to the Colorado Department of Public Health. A form is provided by the department. After completing the form, then it has to be notarized. The physician is also expected to complete some of the information on the form and sign it as well.

The Form
Along with the form, you would also send a copy of a government issued picture ID and money order in the amount of $90. For minors, parents have to complete the form and the doctor has to complete a separate form. Each year, the registry card has to be renewed for another $90 along with the same documentation, whether there have been changes or not.

When and How Should You Use Topical Products?

September 07, 2016

When and How Should You Use Topical Products?
What if there was an all-natural way to ease your aches and pains? Wouldn’t you be willing to try a topical product that worked better than any over-the-counter pain relief pill? If all-natural, safe topical products are something you’re interested in, stop by Altitude Dispensary in Denver to check out what we have to offer.

What are topical products?
Cannabis topical products refer to any balm, lotion or cream that are infused with CBD or THC cannabinoids. These cannabinoids bind with receptors within the skin to increase regeneration of the cells, which helps wounds and injuries heal faster than those that are left untreated. Consumers apply these products directly onto the skin to ease aches and pains associated with muscle soreness and inflammation. The products, found in any Denver dispensary, usually combine CBD with other essential oils such as lavender, cayenne, peppermint and clove to create a pleasant smelling and effective pain relief cream.

What symptoms do topicals treat?
Topical products are used to treat pain, muscle soreness, tension, and inflammation in small areas of the body. If you have aches and pains all over the body, it would probably be best to try a CBD capsule as opposed to a topical cream. Be sure to check the label before buying a topical product to see what it is designed to treat. Some products add menthol to create the cool, tingling sensation that many other over-the-counter pain relief topical creams use, while others have warming properties to help with muscle cramps. If you are unsure of what to choose, don’t hesitate to ask the experts inside the Denver dispensary, Altitude Dispensary.

But, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to topical products infused with CBD and THC. Some skin care manufacturers are also beginning to include CBD oil in their products, citing its ability to soothe eczema and clear acne prone skin. It is also believed that cannabis topical products can increase the elasticity of your skin, meaning it may be able to reduce signs of aging as well.

Because research on the benefits of CBD oil is fairly new, you should expect to see new topical products in the Denver dispensary you visit as new benefits are discovered. Learn more about how topical cannabis can help you.

Who should use topical products?
Do you have to be an athlete in training to use cannabis topical products? Absolutely not! Topical products are not dangerous, so anyone experiencing aches and pains can use these products as long as it’s legal to do so where you live. Many customers come to a Denver dispensary for topical products when they want the medicinal benefits of marijuana without the high feeling associated with smoking it. If you have any doubts about whether you should use topical products infused with cannabis, don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor. Also, keep in mind you should never use a topical cannabis product on an open wound without first talking to a doctor.

Ready to try cannabis infused topical products? Come by Altitude Dispensary, a Denver dispensary, where our knowledgeable budtenders can help you find the right medical or recreational product to suit your needs. Contact Altitude Dispensary for more information today!

Comparison between Sativa and Indica Strains

August 24, 2016

Comparison between Sativa and Indica Strains
If you're new to the subject, there might be a lot of terms you don't know about. But here are some things you might know: It has been in cultivation thousands of years ago. Currently, it is accepted widely by states and countries that have legalized it, at least to a certain extent. There are two definitive strains of cannabis, namely sativa and indica. When these two strains have been crossbred, they produce a wide range of hybrid strains that have exclusive characteristics.

The Primary Strains
While, this is true, both primary strains have their own distinct differences, which are still being debated, especially among those in the scientific field. However, many of these scientists will agree that sativa and indica plants are distinctive in several ways. Their differences are largely because of their adaptation to a wide range of various environments. Let’s assess this more closely.

The Appearance
The appearance is generally what people use to distinguish sativa and indica. The scientist labels this distinction as morphology. However, let’s try to find the basic explanation for the layperson to understand. Indica plants are dense, compact, and heavy. They have a unique fragrance too. These marijuana plants will usually generate nodes at standard intervals along the stems. The nodes are located where the buds, leaves, and branches form. With the indica plants, you will generally notice that they develop in dense clusters, encircling the nodes on the branches and stems.  The space between the clusters is short. This is known as intermodal gaps.

Width, Length and Odor
In similar conditions, sativa grows taller in comparison to indica. The buds are larger and run like vines along the branches rather than growing in a cluster around the nodes as indica does. However, when it is dry, sativa does have less weight than indica because of its reduced density. The odor coming from the sativa buds tend to be less conspicuous than indica, whether during growth or when it is dry. Indica plants will flower faster with a flowering period of up to sixty days. Sativa takes a longer period to flower, up to ninety days to completely bloom. However, sativa has a reduced vegetative growth cycle before flowering.

The Size Comparison
Indica plants increase in height when flowering starts, but it is not helpful when they grow out of control during normal situations. During flowering, indica is expected to boost its vegetative height by up to 100 percent. In tropical weather when the days are shorter, sativa plants will adapt to growing and flowering simultaneously rather than having a distinctive vegetative and blooming phases as the indica plants do. During a 12 hour/12 hour flowering cycle indoor, the sativa plant will develop and flower simultaneously and in a similar manner as in a native setting. Sativa plants can quickly grow taller during the beginning of the flowering phase. Height will increase throughout the blooming state, reaching a height of up to 300 percent while flowering.

The Impact
Indica buds, when inhaled or consumed will give you a ‘stoned’ effect. This means that it gives a sensation of mental and physical relaxation, so much as to make the user want to sleep. On the other hand, sativa buds when inhaled or consumed will put you ‘on a high.’ This means the user is up and quite energetic, happy, and cerebral, less likely to make the user sleep.

If you want to know more about these primary cannabis plants, contact Altitude Dispensary at 720-708-5428. You can also visit their official website to purchase indica buds, sativa buds and its other hybrid strains offered at Altitude Dispensary.

Recreational Cannabis in Colorado and Things to be Aware of

August 10, 2016

Recreational Cannabis in Colorado and Things to be Aware of
There are the typical arguments that the “legalize it” folks have made and its reduced danger in comparison to past legalized products like tobacco or alcohol. These same folks believe that legalization would provide an annual savings of $10 billion to taxpayers than imposing exclusion. Then there is the known reality, which is the tax bonanza to community treasuries. Let’s look at the real figures.

Retail Weed
Retail cannabis is said to incur 25% in state taxes, in addition to the general 2.9% state sales tax, making recreational cannabis one of the most profoundly taxed consumer merchandise in the state of Colorado. There are some municipalities even adding more taxes to this product. The additional proceeds have an annual total of $67 million with $27.5 million going towards building schools as state officials indicate.

The Revenue
With all that revenue, the question now is why would the state bother with having a separate medical cannabis industry? Well, the people who buy medical cannabis do not have to pay the additional taxes as the folks who buy recreational cannabis do. Medical cannabis in the state of Colorado, by law, requires recommendation from a physician and the medical dispensaries have a separate outlet to sell in comparison to the recreational cannabis retailers.

How Much to Buy
Now that we have gotten all of that out of the way, let’s look more closely at the recreational cannabis industry. Many users may want to know how much of this weed they can buy. According to the laws in the state of Colorado, those who are 21 years or older can purchase up to one ounce of recreational weed from a licensed retail store. However, you must present a government-issued Colorado photo identification. If you live outside of the state of Colorado and 21 years or older, you are allowed to purchase quarter of an ounce of recreational weed. Users of recreational weed can share one ounce with their friend once there is no exchange of money.

The Stores
In the state of Colorado, there are about 36 stores that sell recreational weed and in the city of Denver, there are 18 of those retail stores. With not so many of these retail stores available in the initial phase, many were worried that supplies would run out, even on the first day. There are still applicants seeking a recreational license to increase the number of retail stores in the state over time.

Where to Smoke

Where can you smoke this recreational cannabis? You cannot smoke weed in public, even though, it is legalized. You are not allowed to smoke in a retail pot shop or in a store administered by the Clean Indoor Air Act. However, you can smoke it on your private property or on private property owned by someone else, but with their permission. There are certain counties and communities that still do not allow recreational weed stores in their neighborhood jurisdiction. Towns like Greeley and Colorado Springs are among these.

Growing Weed
The state of Colorado allows you to grow approximately six marijuana plants in your home for recreational use. However, the weed patch has to be locked and enclosed.

If you want to know more about recreational marijuana, contact Altitude Dispensary at 720-708-5428. You can also visit their official website to purchase cannabis products offered at Altitude Dispensary.
