Learn How to Smoke a Bowl Properly From a Local Denver Marijuana Dispensary

Learn How to Smoke a Bowl Properly From a Local Denver Marijuana Dispensary
Newcomers to recreational marijuana might feel a bit intimidated about the correct way to enjoy weed if they’ve never packed and smoked a bowl before. Your Denver marijuana dispensary is here to tell cannabis newbies how to prepare their pot, pack the bowl, and smoke for maximum enjoyment.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

If you are new to using marijuana, your first stop should be at your local marijuana dispensary. There, you can speak to experienced budtenders who can help you make your purchases and give you some general instructions. Chances are, the budtender at your best marijuana dispensary in Denver will suggest a glass bowl. Then you’ll need to pick out the product that is most likely to give you the type of high you are looking for. You’ll choose a strain based on whether you want to get an overall relaxed feeling after smoking or if you are looking for something that can stimulate you and provide focus. Don’t forget that you’ll also need a lighter.

Step 2: Prepare the Marijuana

You would properly prepare to break down the marijuana before you start packing it into a bowl. You can use a grinder if you have one, or you can simply pull it apart by hand to break it up into smaller pieces. All of your pieces should be about the same size. Here’s a tutorial for using a grinder for breaking up cannabis. After your weed is prepared, you are ready for the next step.

Step 3: Start Packing the Bowl

Your first layer of weed in the bowl should be packed a bit more lightly than the rest. If you pack the marijuana at the bottom of the bowl too tight, you might get a clogged pipe that you’ll have to empty out in order to clean. The weed at the top should be packed a bit more tightly to provide you with a better inhale.
Now it’s time to grab your lighter and smoke your bowl. Your pipe may have a “carb,” which is a small hole located next to the bowl. Before smoking the weed, place your thumb over the hole and take a deep drag. After you are finished inhaling, release the carb, so the chamber of the pipe clears.

Step 4: Clean Your Bowl

Keep your new bowl in good condition by cleaning it after every use. Your Denver marijuana dispensary budtenders can tell you whether you need a special cleaning solution. If not, you can soak the bowl in boiling water or clean the bowl by hand with a soft cloth and water.

Step 5: Plan Another Visit to Your Local Dispensary

Once you’ve mastered the art of smoking a bowl, you’ll probably want to try other types of weed and perhaps edibles. At Altitude the Dispensary, we have a wide range of strains, edibles, extracts, and other products, and our knowledgeable budtenders are always happy to help you find the right product. Stop at one of our three Denver locations today!

Signs It’s Time to Head to Your Denver Weed Shops to Replace Old Weed

November 20, 2020

Signs It’s Time to Head to Your Denver Weed Shops to Replace Old Weed
If there’s one thing the pandemic has taught us it’s how to make fewer trips to stores in the Denver Metro area, your preferred Denver dispensary included. If you’re like most smokers, you’ve started digging into your stash in ways you haven’t had to in years. Though weed lasts for a long time when stored properly, it can get old and go bad if you’re not careful. No one likes to smoke old cannabis. It’s less flavorful and just disappointing. Here are a few telltale signs to watch for so you can better tell when it’s time to plan an outing to the dispensary.

Pay Attention to the Way It Smells

You know what great weed smells like and you know what your preferred strains smell like when they’re in good shape. Give your bud a small test. If it smells the same as it normally does after you buy it, it’s still good. But if you notice a strange musty smell or pick up hints of mildew, it’s time to head to the dispensary. The chances are good that the bud has a bit of mold or excess moisture that will ruin the taste and may even hurt your lungs if you smoke it. When in doubt, throw it out.

It’s Moldy

Believe it or not, mold can grow on your weed. This is because fresh bud still has traces of moisture in the flower. If stored incorrectly, that moisture can create the perfect environment for mold to grow. Look at each bud in question. If you notice a fine, fuzzy white mass growing over the top of your bud, it’s time to toss it out. Just make sure you’re not confusing trichomes for mold. If you’re looking at the trichomes, the fuzziness will be patchy at best and restricted to only the tips of the flower. If it’s mold, it will cover the trichomes and penetrate the bud’s core.

The Bud Crackles

When you prep your bud for use, you break it apart before placing it in your grinder. Use this to your advantage. Pay attention to the way it sounds while you break it apart. If the bud is fresh, it will snap as you break it into pieces, almost like stepping on a dry twig. If it’s old and needs to go, the bud will crackle as you break it.

Give It a Taste

If everything looks and sounds good, the best way to tell if your bud is old is to light up. Old bud won’t give you the same punch of flavor that you’ve come to expect with your cannabis. It will taste stale or flavorless at best. That said, smoking old bud isn’t necessarily bad for you as long as there’s not mold. It just won’t get you as high as you’re used to.

Replace Your Old Bud Now

If your stash is too old, don’t settle for smoking boring bud. Head to your nearest location and stock up on fresh, high-quality cannabis that will delight your tastebuds. Just be sure to sign up for our loyalty program so you can access great discounts regularly.

Denver Weed Shops’ Recommended Cannabis-Infused Beverages to Warm up with This Winter

Denver Weed Shops’ Recommended Cannabis-Infused Beverages to Warm up with This Winter
Winter weather means you’ll end up spending more time indoors than outside. While this can feel somewhat depressing, you don’t have to be bored while you’re at home. Instead, you can experiment and find new, fun ways to enjoy your favorite cannabis from the best dispensaries in Denver. Though there are many different edibles and treats you can make at home, they don’t always warm you up the way you want them to. Here are a few great cannabis-infused hot beverages to make this winter.

Hot Cannabuttered Rum

After a long week of work, you need a way to relax and unwind. What better way to do just that than with a hot cocktail? This cannabis-infused version of a classic hot buttered rum combines the perfect amount of boozy goodness with THC for a warm and relaxing beverage that will make even the toughest week feel less stressful. You’ll need the following:
  • 2 tablespoons of cannabutter
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • Ground ginger to taste
  • Ground nutmeg to taste
  • Ground cinnamon to taste
  • 1.5 ounces of dark rum
  • ¼ cup hot water
  • Lemon wedge
  • Mix these together to create a delicious warming beverage to help you unwind.
Cannabis-Infused Hot Cocoa

Nothing says “winter” like hot chocolate and this simple recipe is all you need to satisfy your sweet tooth while giving yourself a nice, relaxing buzz. Grab your preferred hot cocoa mix—we recommend the powdered kind for simplicity’s sake—and your favorite cannabis-infused chocolate bar. Any flavor of chocolate works here. Mix the hot cocoa according to the directions on the package and break off your desired amount of cannabis chocolate. Chop it up into small bits and stir it into the beverage. Once everything is melted and fully incorporated, top the drink with miniature marshmallows or whipped topping.

Super-Relaxing Chamomile Tea

Nothing is better at helping you relax and unwind than chamomile tea save for a cannabis-infused chamomile tea. Start with a high-quality chamomile blend. Look for teas that are organic if possible. Steep the tea for about 5 minutes. Sweeten with cannabis-infused honey to taste. If you’re not a fan of sweet teas, steep the chamomile with your preferred bud to create a straight-up cannabis-infused chamomile herbal tea. Just make sure you enjoy the taste of the bud you use. Steeping it as tea brings out a lot of the earthy flavors that are often hidden by smoking. If you choose the wrong strain, it can make the tea less enjoyable.

Warm up with These Great Beverages

Don’t let the winter chill get you down this year. Whip up one of these great beverages and stay warm and relaxed in the comfort of your own living room. If you’re looking for the highest quality cannabis to help you make those delicious infused beverages, head to one of our three convenient locations and speak with our budtenders. They’ll help you find the best strains to work with your preferred warm beverage so you’ll enjoy every sip every time.

Denver Weed Shop Offers Tips for Avoiding the Post-Cannabis Munchies

Denver Weed Shop Offers Tips for Avoiding the Post-Cannabis Munchies
Cannabis lovers enjoy the relaxation smoking provides. But one of the side effects of indulging in this activity is something most smokers do not: getting the munchies. So what can be done about this unfortunate side effect? Here are some suggestions from a Denver weed shop.

Why Marijuana Makes You Feel Hungry

Scientists have conducted experiments to help solve this mystery. One study found that in mice, TCH—the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the sensation of being high—increased their ability to smell food, which lead to them eating more of it. So this is one possibility to explain increased appetite. Other studies have shown that cannabis mixes up the signals in the brain, so your body might be telling your brain that it is hungry, even when it’s not.

Tips for Stopping the Munchies

These may take some planning ahead of time—so before you light up—but here are some ways you can avoid raiding the pantry every time you are high.
  1. Don’t skip meals prior to lighting up. If you don’t eat regularly scheduled meals, you’ll be more apt to satisfy your hunger with junk food. Being sated before you smoke can help you avoid mindless munchies.
  2. Do something productive. It’s easy to hang out and let your mind wander while you’re high, but that might get you started thinking about food. Stay busy—even if it’s just playing video games. (Be sure whatever activity you choose is safe to do while under the influence.) It can help keep you from obsessing about snacks.
  3. Keep temptations at a minimum. Whether this means deleting the pizza app on your phone or keeping your pantry clear of your favorite junk foods, just do what you need to do to keep yourself from regretting post-cannabis snacking.
  4. Exercise before you indulge. If snacking is inevitable after using marijuana, you can help with the extra calories by working out beforehand. An activity you enjoy can burn off some calories ahead of time so you don’t have to feel so guilty about it later.
  5. Brush your teeth with a minty toothpaste. Not only will this get the smoking taste out of your mouth, but you are far less likely to be tempted with snacks if your breath is minty fresh.
  6. Try a different strain of weed. The next time you are at the dispensary, talk to the budtenders about which strains have more CBD and THCV. These are less likely to give you the munchies after you smoke.
  7. Roll with it. If post-marijuana eating is bound to happen, plan for a healthy meal. Have all the ingredients on hand to whip up a healthy meal that you can enjoy without the guilt.
When you’re looking for the latest in cannabis products or have questions about which strain might be best for you, stop by the Denver area Altitude the Dispensary location closest to you. Our budtenders can’t wait to help you pick out your favorite weed products or help you find something new. Plan to visit one of our three locations today!

Denver Weed Shop Tells You What You Need to Know Before Your First Visit

Denver Weed Shop Tells You What You Need to Know Before Your First Visit
With both recreational and medicinal marijuana legal, many people have decided to try marijuana products for the first time. Visiting a Denver weed shop for the first time can be intimidating—but it doesn’t have to be if you keep these things in mind.

There Are Many Different Types of Strains

The different types of marijuana are known as “strains,” and there are thousands on the market. The different types are not distinguished by their strength but by the aromatic oils that give them different tastes and smells. Some are meant to be energizing, and some are meant to be relaxing.

There are Two Types of Pot Plants

There are two main subspecies of marijuana plants: Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa. Each has a distinct look and chemical makeup. Sativa plants have more THC (the primary psychoactive ingredient) and less cannabidiol (CBD—the nonpsychoactive component) content. Your budtender—the Denver weed shop employee—may recommend one or the other for you, depending on your purpose for use.

Today’s Marijuana Is More Potent

If it’s been a while since you used pot, you should know that today’s cannabis strains are much stronger. According to an article in Missouri Medicine, pot during the 1960s to the 1980s had about a 2 percent TCH level; today’s weed is as high as 28 percent THC.

People React to Pot Differently

Finding marijuana that you like can take some trial and error. People react to different strains differently based on their overall health, sex, tolerance level, and genetics. Recommendations from friends and dispensary employees are an excellent place to start, but you’ll need to find the one that is right for you and your needs.

How You Consume Cannabis Will Affect Your High

If you are new to marijuana, you should know that smoking versus eating cannabis will affect you differently. Smoking delivers an almost instant result, but edibles will take more time since they have to pass through your body before reaching the brain. But the high from edibles usually lasts much longer than with smoking, so be mindful of your consumption.

Buying CBD Oils Does Not Mean You Are Buying Pot

Many people are under the mistaken impression that CBD oil is still pot. CBD oil comes from the hemp plant, so it has 0.3 percent or less TCH in it. CBD interacts differently with the brain than THC does, and it offers many health benefits. Scientific evidence shows that it can help alleviate pain, depression, anxiety, cancer-related symptoms, and more.

Some Final Tips

Be sure to bring along your ID. You need to be 21 to purchase any Denver weed shop products.
Most dispensaries sell a multitude of products, including:
  • Oil cartridges
  • Topical creams and salves
  • Drinks
  • Edibles
  • Extracts
Not sure about something? Listen to your budtender. They know about cannabis and cannabis products; if you’re a newbie, ask questions and listen to their advice to ensure you have the best possible experience.
