Advice from a Denver Dispensary, Which Beverages Should You Drink When Smoking?

January 3, 2018

Many people think carefully about which wine they should drink while eating certain foods, but have you ever thought about what beverage you should drink when smoking? Here’s a look at how tea, coffee, beer, and wine should be paired with pot:

Coffee

Many smokers that consume cannabis first thing in the morning enjoy pairing it with a cup of hot coffee. But, what kind of coffee is best? First, think about the caffeine content. Light roast coffee has the most caffeine, so it’s not a good idea to pair this type of coffee with an indica strain that makes you sleepy. If you are smoking an indica strain, choose a decaffeinated coffee or a dark roast, which has much less caffeine than light roast coffee.

If you are drinking a flavored coffee, make sure to choose a strain with a complementary flavor. For instance, smoking the Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies strain, which has a minty flavor, is not a good idea if you are sipping on caramel flavored coffee. Instead, choose either the Chocolate Thai strain or Chocolope strain, which would pair well with the caramel flavor.

Tea

When choosing which tea to drink as you smoke, it’s important to consider the effects of both the tea and the cannabis. If you are smoking a strain of cannabis that is designed to promote rest and relaxation, then pair it with chamomile or another type of tea that produces the same effects. Highly caffeinated teas work best with strains that are supposed to make you feel more creative and inspired. Take a look at the Leafly guide to pairing tea and cannabis.

Beer

Think about the flavors of different types of beer when choosing the perfect brew to sip on as you smoke. Ideally, you should research how each brew and strain is made to learn about the different flavors and ingredients. However, if you don’t want to commit to conducting research, then go by the name of the beer and the strain alone. For example, Pineapple Express cannabis could be paired with a grapefruit or orange-flavored IPA. In this example, both the cannabis and the beer have a citrus flavor, which means they will work well together.

Wine

Wine aficionados know that every type of wine has a distinct flavor, so this is something that you should consider when choosing a wine to drink while smoking cannabis. A light and fruity strain of cannabis would pair well with a sparkling rosé, which has a similar flavor. You don’t always have to find an exact match between the flavor of the wine and the flavor of the cannabis, but you should always choose flavors that complement each other. For example, a wine that has deep, earthy notes may work well with a sweet, chocolate-flavored strain.
