Denver Weed Shops Debunk Common CBD Myths

Novemeber 7, 2018

When you first head to your favorite dispensary in Denver, you’ll be presented with two categories of cannabis products: those that contain THC and CBD-only items. Though we’re all familiar with the effects of strains containing THC, many people still have questions about CBD products. This has led to a number of myths and misconceptions about CBD products and we want to set the record straight. Here are a few of the most common myths and why they’re absolutely not true.

CBD Will Get You High

Unless a product contains THC, it won’t get you high. THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is the psychoactive component of the cannabis plant. CBD-only products contain minimal to no THC. In fact, many CBD oils on the market are made from hemp, a type of cannabis plant that naturally has no psychoactive properties.

CBD is the Only Part of the Plant With Any Benefits

Both CBD and THC have many benefits, and many people see great success when using marijuana strains containing both THC and CBD. Commonly, CBD oil and extracts are thought to help your body promote a healthy inflammatory response and new studies are constantly emerging showing countless other applications.  However, THC has been used in medical applications for pain management for years.

CBD Can Only be Extracted From Hemp

Though the vast majority of CBD tinctures and extracts available outside of dispensaries is produced from industrial hemp, it’s not the only source. CBD can be distilled from medical-grade marijuana just as easily. The only difference is CBD produced from standard marijuana can typically only be purchased from your local dispensary. You’ll still need to be 21 or older to purchase the product.

You Need a Prescription to Purchase CBD Oil

Outside of Colorado, you may need a prescription to purchase products containing CBD if it’s produced from medical-grade marijuana. However, if you’re buying your products locally, you don’t. As stated previously, you’re able to purchase marijuana and marijuana-derived products without a prescription in the state as long as you’re over 21.

CBD is Only Available as a Tincture

Tinctures may be the most common CBD products, but they’re far from the only ones on the market. Your local dispensaries offer patches, lotions, muscle rubs, and tinctures among other items. There’s something for everyone, whether you want a topical application or are looking for a quality concentrate or tincture to use orally. For those of you who enjoy vaping, disposable CBD cartridges fit many portable vape pens.

All CBD is the Same

Just as some marijuana strains and products are exceptionally high quality, some CBD products will be better than others. The products you order online may not be the same quality as the ones you’d find at your local dispensary. When in doubt, buy local. At Colorado dispensaries, everything is grown and extracted according to strict standards, so you’ll always get a high-quality product, no matter what you purchase.
